Love came in forms quite different than I knew,
It came in little hands and little toes, It came in coos and cries and laughs – hearty ones oh! It came in powdery smells and stinky piles Love came to me in a swaddled bundle, That at first I couldn’t quite handle. Love knew forgiveness without second thought Simply forgot when it was scorned Never recalled when it was rebuked Or simply blamed for acts beyond its control. Love came in bear hugs and smooches Strong kicks soft punches It stiffened its body to say no And opened arms wide accepting and befriending Love came with its tantrums And threw them it did Love wanted its way even when it was less than ideal Love learnt to be better in a world so different Love was a child And well children? They grow. And so will love.
